Abstract:

This paper highlights the need to clarify the meaning of two basic terms in biology and physics: order and organization. It proposes a severe restriction on the use of the term "organization" so that it should only be used in the teleological sense given by Kant, in which case the only known organized objects would be living beings and artificial objects. Likewise, it is suggested to use the term "order" only in the cases of thermodynamic order and periodic (regular) order. Dissipative structures, semantic closures and cell closures are also analyzed.
