Abstract:
Newton has given the second law of motion in the Principia in 1686. In the standard textbooks, the equation F =ma is regarded as an equation based on the second law of motion. But it is lesser-known fact that the definition of Newton’s second law of motion has been extended or modified by Walter William Rouse Ball (fellow and tutor of Trinity College Cambridge) in 1893 ( i.e. 207 years after the publication of the Principia ) in An Essay on Newton’s Principia for the first time.
