Abstract:
Equations for the planetary energy and the angular momentum have been derived as functions of a planet’s orbital period and its mass, and their values were found to be in good agreement with NASA’s equivalent. However, when those values were applied in the calculation of the eccentricity, the latter deviated from NASA’s results. Finally, the analysis showed that rotation of a planet around its axis is a source of eccentricity, whereas in the absence of rotation, the eccentricity becomes zero.
