Abstract:
The observation of the phenomenon known as the cosmic microwave background (CMB) is one of the three main pillars of empirical evidence claimed by a vast majority of physicists, astronomers, and cosmologists. These consider it to be “proof” of the big bang theory and therefore the standard CDM cosmology. They call it the “after glow” of the Big Bang, along with the surface of last scattering. However, there are several issues associated with the mainstream interpretation of the CMB and some, including myself, are not convinced it legitimately supports their position. This paper lays out both sides. Apologetically, I do not bring anything new to the discussion but hope that by putting what I believe to be the main pieces together, including critical ones, the reader might come to a position that is reasonable, realistic, and unbiased.
