Abstract:
This paper develops an argument about the nature of motion based on preinertia, a universal property of all physical objects that physics has not yet discovered, in this case perhaps because of its excessive self-evidence. The argument is closely related to the historical Clarke-Leibniz epistolary debate, which is now considered resolved in favor of Leibniz's relativistic thesis, the same thesis that modern physics has adopted and imposed in an absolutist manner since the beginning of the twentieth century. The brief preinertial argument developed in this article proves that the debate may indeed be settled, but in the opposite direction. This really justifies the title of the article, not because of the probably erroneous solution imposed (science is trial and error), but because of the totalitarian way of imposing it.
