Abstract:

Scientists and philosophers have been fascinated with ‘what space is’ since antiquity. Its been called a vacuum, a giant ocean of a mysterious substance, luminiferous aether, mechanical gravitational aether; and more, always to describe an unknown and undetectable, but active, space-filling substance. It is still considered necessary to determine what this evasive ‘material’ is, so as to explain cosmic forces not yet fully understood and to make associated mathematical problems, finally, solvable.
