Die Lorentz-Kraftgleichung F= q(E + v×B), die seit Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts von der Ingenieurgemeinschaft zur Steuerung der Bewegung von Elektronen auf freien Bahnen in einem breiten Spektrum von technischen Anwendungen verwendet wird, ist eine allgemeine Gleichung, die ursprünglich von Hendrik Antoon Lorentz zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts entwickelt wurde und die sich in einer einzigen Formulierung mit zwei sehr unterschiedlichen Aspekten des Verhaltens von Elektronen in freier Bewegung befasst. Ziel dieses Artikels ist es, den historischen Kontext, in dem die Gleichung entwickelt wurde, und zu klären, wie die beiden verschiedenen Aspekte für die praktische Berechnung und die Grundlagenforschung in der Physik klar voneinander getrennt werden können, um die klassische/relativistische Mechanik und die Quantenmechanik mit dem Elektromagnetismus in Einklang zu bringen, und insbesondere, auf welche Weise sein erster Term mit der Gravitation in Verbindung gebracht werden kann, während sein zweiter Term mit der elektromagnetisch messbaren Masse in Verbindung gebracht werden kann.
