Abstract:

La ecuación de fuerza de Lorentz F= q(E + v×B), utilizada por la comunidad de ingenieros desde principios del siglo XX para controlar el movimiento de electrones en trayectorias libres en una amplia gama de aplicaciones técnicas, es una ecuación generalizada que fue desarrollada inicialmente por Hendrik Antoon Lorentz a principios del siglo XX, y que trata, en una sola formulación, dos aspectos muy diferentes del comportamiento de los electrones en movimiento libre. Este artículo tiene como objetivo poner en perspectiva el contexto histórico en el que se desarrolló la ecuación, y aclarar cómo pueden separarse claramente sus dos aspectos diferentes para fines de cálculo práctico y su utilización en la investigación fundamental en física, para ayudar a reconciliar la mecánica clásica/relativista y la mecánica cuántica con el electromagnetismo y, en particular, cómo su primer término puede relacionarse con la gravitación mientras que su segundo término puede relacionarse con la masa electromagnética medible.
