Geometrical Optics; Speed of Light; Emission of Light; Reflection of Light; Interference of Light; Michelson Interferometer.
The purpose of this experiment is to verify the validity of the hypotheses that the reflection of light is a mechanical phenomenon and the velocity of light is independent of the motion of the source applied in experiments with interferometers. These two hypotheses applied to the Michelson interferometer predict a fringe shift from zero to in agreement with experimental results but applied to the interferometer employed in this paper predict a fringe shift of in contradiction with the null experimental result. The result of the experiment indicates that the velocity of light depends on the motion of the source as a mechanical phenomenon. The result of this experiment and the result of the Michelson-Morley experiment are in accordance with the hypotheses that the reflection of light and emission of light are mechanical phenomena.
