Abstract:
Almost a century and a half ago, when the concept of "photon" did not exist yet and the wave theory prevailing at that time considered light as oscillations of the luminiferous ether, Michelson's experiment showed that the speed of light relative to the interferometer does not depend on the motion of the interferometer relative to the ether. Lorentz transformations appeared, explaining this independence by the shortening of distances and the slowing down of time in inertial frames moving relative to the ether. Although special relativity threw away the ether, it was based on the same etheric transformations. Such a strange situation could hardly have arisen if at that time light were considered not as vibrations of the ether propagating in all directions, but as streams of photons, each of which has its own frequency and moves in a straight line in absolute vacuum. The article presents a brief overview of the main researches on the special theory of relativity, published by us since 1987. The purpose of all these researches is to refute the postulate of the constancy of the speed of light on the basis of modern concepts that a light beam is a flux of photons
