Lorentz was strongly convinced that the Earth moves through the ether, i.e. that the ether flows through the Earth as if the Earth does not exist. He considered Fizeau's experiment as a confirmation of his theory, according to which, as he claimed, only the electrons of matter influence the propagation of light in a medium, but otherwise, the light moves with the known speed of light in the space between the electrons. For this reason he looked for every possibility to confirm his theory on a theoretical level and rejected any other explanation.
