Abstract:
The purpose of this experiment is to verify the validity of the reflection of light as a mechanical phenomenon when the velocity of light is considered independent of its source velocity. The reflection of light as a mechanical phenomenon applied to the Michelson interferometer predicts zero or an undetectable fringe shift, but applied to the interferometer employed in this paper predicts a detectable fringe shift. The result of the experiment with this interferometer displays no fringe shift. Therefore, the result invalidates the reflection of light as a mechanical phenomenon when the velocity of light is considered independent of its source velocity.
