Abstract:

In Appendix 1 of Einstein book "Relativity, The Special and The General Theory" he derives the transformation equations for Special Relativity. The first stages of his reasoning follow logically. The later part of the derivation contains multiple leaps of faith in the logic which cannot be justified.
