Abstract:

Ce travail propose une réévaluation moderne des expériences optiques dites « du premier ordre », visant à tester la propagation de la lumière dans un milieu matériel en mouvement lorsque l’ensemble du dispositif est embarqué. S’inscrivant dans la continuité des travaux de Bradley, Fresnel, Fizeau, Hoek et Einstein, il souligne que la majorité des tests classiques de la relativité sont conçus pour annuler par symétrie les effets linéaires en vitesse, ne laissant apparaître que des effets du second ordre. L’expérience proposée consiste à comparer, au moyen d’un interféromètre embarqué sur un véhicule, le temps de parcours d’un faisceau lumineux traversant un milieu réfringent et celui d’un faisceau de référence. Dans un cadre pré-relativiste, la traînée de Fresnel ou le couplage lumière–matière prédisent un décalage de franges proportionnel à la vitesse du montage. L’étude examine également le rôle du référentiel de la source lumineuse et la possibilité d’un déphasage Doppler. Un signal mesurable du premier ordre indiquerait que la propagation de la lumière dans les milieux matériels conserve une sensibilité à l’état inertiel de la source, suggérant des limites dans la description relativiste des interactions optiques dans la matière. À l’inverse, l'expérience demeure hautement informative, car elle explore un domaine rarement testé expérimentalement.
