Abstract:

Hubble published his discovery of the expansion of the Universe in 1929. He had observed an redshift of the light emitted in galaxies by Cepheids. He interpreted this shift as a galaxy escape causing a Doppler-Fizeau effect. This phenomenon confirmed the hypothesis of the expansion of the Universe, put forward by Abbé Lemaître in 1927 as part of the theory of General Relativity. The acceleration of the Universe's expansion was discovered in 1988. This acceleration requires the presence of dark energy in space. Its gravitational force would be repulsive. But it emerged in 2024 that this dark energy varies over time
