Abstract:
In 1941, Julius Adams Stratton wrote "In the theory of electromagnetism, the dimensions of e0 and m0, that link respectively D and E and B and H, in vacuum, are perfectly arbitrary". This assertion still is valid today in the context of classical electrodynamics. Both of these constants have never been derived from first principles. It will be shown here that the dimensions of both constants are not arbitrary and that both constants can be derived from first principles.
