The project is based in a nuclear beta emission, their interaction with crystal scintillators generating photons to power solar cells. The new battery exceeded the performance of thermoelectric batteries under NASA development, which are unable to resist the extreme heat developed. The adequate scintillator thickness or covering allowed to trap the kinetic energy of the beta particles, allowing shielding from radiation damage. Since, the beta emitters could be mix with the scintillator the radiation energy follows the geometric patterns of the light emission.
